Siata Daina SL0330B front graphics – simply beautiful
At Techno Classica Essen 2013 I came across this beautiful face of a 1952 Siata Daina Sport Coupe originally bodied by Bertone. In Essen the car was presented by Touring Superleggera Milano, the company that recently restored this small beauty. According to Touring Superleggera the car had been damaged in its early days in an accident and returned to Bertone for repair. There it was heavily modified with a new front grille, altered front section, and the addition of a boot lid & luggage compartment. Found in barn state, the car was carefully restored by Touring Superleggera in Milan to its original layout and specifications. No picture was available of the original car, so extensive research led to a twin that was measured to precisely define the authentic shape, using 3D-techniques, and to build a metal jig.
Touring Superleggera manufactured the front grille and the relevant aperture to the authentic 6-bar with visible vertical support design.
This 1952 Siata Daina Sport Coupe is supposed to be one of 12 remaining and the last produced of the series.
Looking from different front angles the car looks light and powerful. The front graphics are extremely well balanced and the headlamps with double frame create the effect of eyes looking friendly to the side. The almost exaggerated proportions of grille and headlamps make the front look cute but also powerful and self confident. There is a lot to learn about the history of these cars. Simply beautiful.
